Under the general supervision of the Director/Associate Director, renders professional nursing care in accordance with physician's treatment plans and standards of practice/care. In doing so, assesses patient's condition, plans patient care, administers prescribed drugs, provides treatments, provides appropriate patient education, evaluates patient's progress, records pertinent observations and report responses to drugs and treatments. Assists with examinations and prepares instruments and equipment. Advocates for patient in order to achieve the best possible outcome. 1. Assesses and manages laboring woman's physical condition/parameters and progress through the labor and delivery, including significant other in the process 2. Assesses fetal well being by means of electronic fetal monitoring and other standard parameters 3. Immediate stabilization of the neonate 4. Maternal recovery after delivery (vaginal or cesarean section) 5. Assumes circulating role for vaginal or cesarean section delivery 6. Assesses for and in collaboration with medical staff, stabilizes and evaluates effectiveness of interventions for obstetrical/medical complications such as: • Pre-term Premature Rupture of Membranes (PPROM) • Pre-term Labor (PTL) • Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH) • Hemolysis Elevated Liver Enzymes and Low Platelets (HELLP) • Diabetes • Placenta Previa • Placental Abruption 7. Initiates parent infant bonding promoting a baby-friendly environment 8. Assesses learning needs and teaches patient and family
