Under the general supervision of the Director/Associate Director, renders professional nursing care in accordance with physician's treatment plans and standards of practice/care. In doing so, assesses patient's condition, plans patient care, administers prescribed drugs, provides treatments, provides appropriate patient education, evaluates patient's progress, records pertinent observations and report responses to drugs and treatments. Assists with examinations and prepares instruments and equipment. Advocates for patient in order to achieve the best possible outcome. 1. Triages, assesses, and prioritizes patients upon arrival according to emergent, urgent, and non-urgent acuity levels. 2. Performs primary and secondary assessments on patients with traumatic injuries, and initiates immediate nursing care and therapy for patients presenting with cardiac symptoms. 3. Assesses and manages patients with rapidly changing and\or life-threatening conditions in accordance with Emergency Care Center guidelines, order sets, and Advanced Cardiac and Pediatric Life Support protocols. 4. Manages pain control needs for all patients. 5. Provides care and education congruent with age-related needs for the infant, child, adolescent, young adult, and elderly populations. 6. Educates patient or caregiver on appropriate home care, including safe and effective use of medications, pain management and comfort, needed referrals and resources, and when to seek further care and follow-up after emergency care. Certification: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be completed within one year of hire or one year from completion of the nurse internship program. Trauma Nurse Core Course is highly recommended within 18 months of employment.
